Trooper Sean Groubert shot Unarmed Levar Jones

Written by on September 27, 2014

The good news is that Levar Jones will live. The bad news is that former Trooper Sean Groubert made horrible mistake.

Groubert pulled Jones over on suspicion of a “seatbelt violation.” Jones exited his car right before the cop asked him to see his license. Jones follows the officer’s instructions. The citizen grabs at his pocket, then twirls around to reach inside of his car. Sean Groubert opened fire on him.

The video does indeed confirmed that Jones moved rather abruptly. The officer believes this gave him just cause to shoot. However, the video also confirms that Groubert had no other reason to open fire. It confirms Groubert continued to fire multiple times after Jones’ hands were in the air.

Luckily, the former Trooper did not aim at any vital organs (giving him the benefit of the doubt). But I wonder what the former officer saw in his mind? On this video, I see an average dude stopping at a convenience store. I see a confused and nervous citizen attempting to cooperate with the police. Those things outweigh any potential threat that Levar Jones could have presented.

But what did former Trooper Sean Groubert see in his mind?
