DJ Special Blend’s Top 40 week ending July 18, 2009
July 20, 2009 No Comments
This is DJ Special Blend from Chicago. What’s up America and the World! Time to count down the top Hip-Hop/R&B jams from the South Side of Chicago. But first, I hear that MC Ren is about to drop some music for the first time since forever. That should be interesting. Hey, wouldn’t it be hilarious if MC Ren comes out using Auto-Tunes? Actually, that wouldn’t be funny… it would be sad. Let’s hope that doesn’t happen. Meanwhile, Method Man and Redman made it to the number one last week, and it’s time to see if all that phat chemistry they share will allow them to hold on for a second week. Only one way to find out, so let’s start it off a little something like this…
Number 10
Okay, we’re gonna allow Mario to move into the top ten this week along with Gucci Mane and Sean Garrett. First week in the top ten for “Break Up,” and it’s in heavy rotation in this neck of the woods on the airwaves. I felt like I heard it so much, that it wouldn’t be right if it didn’t shine at least a little-bit in the top ten.
Number 9
Jigga moves up one spot this week with his latest jam called “D.O.A. (Death of Auto-Tune)” Unless you have been in another country for the last few years, you know that the Auto-Tune is the voice effect that a lotta peeps have been using to death. Jay Z takes the anti Auto-Tune route… and why not? It’s bound to go away sooner or later. Enough already. Two weeks in the top ten so far for this one.
Number 8
Laura Izabor is at number eight his week. This joint spent two weeks at number one, and has been in the top ten for ten incredible weeks. “From My Heart to Yours” headed up Mixshow 72 episode 360 a couple weeks ago. That’s definitely worth peeping if you haven’t had the chance to do so. Click –> here!
Number 7
Webstar gets his number seven on this week, as he moves up one spot. Cain’t really miss if you have Jim Jones on your cut these days. Fourth week in the top ten this time around.
Number 6
The Clipse move up three spots this week with their latest jam featuring Kanye West. Been waiting weeks for this video and I was a little disapointed. However, the song is still most definately a jam any day of the week. Pumped this one in Mixshow 72 episode 359 not too long ago.

Number 5
Phoenix Phenom is up one more spot to land at number five this week. I’m still tryna pass judgement, without being judgemental. The more of her I see, the more she keeps striking me as an Aaliyah look alike or wanna be, and I still don’t think that’s what they’re aiming for. I dunno… whatever the case, I’ll hit that if she’s 18 or older
“Love Song” has been in the top ten for five weeks.
Number 4
Lil Wayne and them land at number four this week with “Every Girl.” This joint spent three weeks at number one, and it has been in the top ten for twelve consecutive weeks. Thats longer than any other song this week.
Number 3
Drake makes a huge leap from number seven to number three this week with “Best I Ever Had.” Only three weeks in the top ten so far, and dude is tryna boguard his way through. He don’t know that we make light-skinned niggas ride the back of the bus
This kid might be on to something though.
Number 2
Fabolous has made it to number two y’all. “Put It In The Bag” has been in the top ten for seven weeks so far. Oh, how time flies.
Songs that bounced outta there this week:
- “Swag Surfin’” by Fast Life Youngstas fell out the top ten after a very respectable eight week run. It peaked at number two.
remembering walter cronkite. rest in peace
And now…
Number 1
This is what I like to call “Grown-Folks Hip-Hop.” You can take that to the bank. Method Man and Redman continue to define the word chemistry just as naturally as anyone could ever ask. “A-Yo” is at number one for the second week in a row. Seven weeks in the top ten sor far… all congrads due…
Add to favorites and listen in!
Another week, another chart. Walter Cronkite passed away at the age of 92 on Friday. May he rest in peace. Also, peeps are reporting that Jermaine Dupri and Janet Jackson aren’t together any more. We’re gonna have o ask my girl Chicbella from On The Record Magazine about that when we talk to her this week. I’m about to get outta here, but I’ll be back next time. Same time, same place. ’til then, don’t bump into the turntables!
5000!
