After all the bickering over the title, Chi-Raq hit the theaters. This film is a traditional “Spike Lee Joint.” His movies, or “Joints,” do not follow the usual routes of character development. The actors frequently break out into entertaining musical numbers and short comedy skits about controversial topics. Spike Lee fans know to brace themselves for possible telephones that might fall out the sky from nowhere, or maybe an occasional upside-down camera shot. None of that happened this time. However, the cinematography does a fine job of capturing the city as the visual backdrop of the story.

Creed is the seventh installment of the Rocky film series, and it is possibly the best. Directed by Ryan Coogler, it stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis Johnson, the late Apollo Creed’s son. Sylvester Stallone plays Rocky, who has finally retired from boxing. The gloves are handed to the next generation, and the Rocky franchise is only one movie late in doing so.

Even the most die-hard Rocky fan had trouble accepting Rock Balboa, the sixth movie in this franchise. It is hard to believe a 60 year old man can go 15 rounds with the current heavy weight champion of the world.
That is not a problem in the movie Creed. The characters are believable and the Rocky character is finally aging properly.

As usual, the Peanuts’ main protagonist is a kid named Charlie Brown. He is a good person at heart that is always misunderstood. Charlie brown is obsessed with flying a kite, but is never successful. He is a lovable looser on the baseball diamond that suffers from low self esteem, depression, and anxiety. Also, his parents’ guidance is virtually nonexistent. Lucy messes with Charlie Brown’s head on a regular basis by moving the football when he tries to kick it. But at the same time she is the neighborhood psychiatrist, so she’s his only hope for mental salvation.

Abbott and Costello went to Mars. So did Robinson Caruso. Plus, many people’s favorite Looney Tunes character is Marvin the Martian. Fiction has been written previously about Mars, however there are new facts known about the big red planet. This movie capitalizes on our curiosity.

The Martian is set during a time in which the United States has established a space program to Mars that has already made multiple trips. Five astronauts make this particular journey, however Matt Damon’s character Mark Watney is left behind and presumed dead.

Throw a handful of pretty people on the screen with a bunch of scary music, and you have the new suspense feature titled The Perfect Guy.

Sanna Lathon, Michael Ealy, and Morris Chestnut headline the film that is intended to have you thrilled to the edge of your seat. The cast can act, and they are the movie’s strongest asset.

The good news is that the characters are well developed. Thankfully, the female victim does not make you want to choke her. Also, the script does a good job of covering itself. I spent minimum time questioning the motivation of the characters. There was a nice build up of suspense throughout the story.

Straight Outta Compton chronicles the story of the legendary Hip-Hop group Niggaz With Attitude. Based on true events, the movie focuses on the Compton California crew featuring Easy E, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, DJ Yella, and MC Ren.

Dre and Yella are popular DJ’s at a club run by Alonzo Williams. After being arrested, Dre convinces drug dealer Eric Wright to invest money into funding Ruthless Records. Cube writes the track Boys in the Hood for a rap group named Home Boys Only, who reject the song.

With Cube unable to record due to prior commitments, they convince Wright to perform. The journey advances on a ride through the peak of the group’s popularity during the early 90’s, and concludes with Easy E‘s death, along with Dr. Dre‘s departure from Death Row Records.

X-Men: Days of Future Past promised to be the most epic and best X-Men movie yet. It just may have indeed accomplished that. Professor X and his proteges are faced with an alternate future. It’s definitely worth the price of admission to see the latest Star Trek movie. You do not have to be a Trekkie, and even little kids that have never ever heard of Star Trek will enjoy this film. Tyler Perry actually has a small roll in this film, and it caught me off guard than […]

The X-Men took to the big screen once again, and once again they nailed it when it comes to action and special effects.
