Tennessee Judge is on Some Shit with the Name Change Order

Baby MessiahJaleesa Martin ended up in court with her baby’s daddy because they couldn’t decide on the last name of their child. The Cocke County Chancery Court not only decided the last name of the child, they changed the first name, too. Judge Lu Ann Ballew changed the first name of the child from “Messiah” because “Messiah” has already been claimed.

“The word Messiah is a title and it’s a title that has only been earned by one person and that one person is Jesus Christ,” Judge Ballew said.

What? I’m sorry, but this judge is on some shit.

She has good intentions, but she’s in the wrong for incorporating her religious beliefs in her decision. Jaleesa Martin did not intend the name “Messiah” to have any religious implication. How is Judge Ballew gone pass judgement on them like that? Who does she think she is? Some type of judge or something?

Meanwhile, I wonder what the big deal is with the mother. Why won’t she allow the baby to have the father’s last name? Shouldn’t she be happy the father wants it that way? I think she’s trying to hide something.

“Everybody believes what they want so I think I should be able to name my child what I want to name him, not someone else,” Martin said.

I agree on the first name, but if she would’ve just given in and let the baby have the daddy’s last name, his birth certificate would still read “Messiah.”

I’m just saying.
