Movie Review: Cadillac Records

Written by on December 30, 2008

Dope flick are the words that come to mind after checking out director Darnell Martin on the controls of Cadillac Records.

Based on a true story, this joint gives musical treats to younger genrations, as it tells the story of Leonard Chess building the mighty recording label: Cadillac Reocrds.

Aside from the pleasant musical history lesson, we get an all-star cast in this project.  Leonard Chess is played by Adrian Brody, Etta James is played by Beyonce Knowles and Chuck Berry is portrayed by Mos Def.

Columbus Short is very believable as Little Walter and they knew that they nailed it with Eamonn Walker as Howlin’ Wolf.

The story is narrated by Cedric the Entertainer‘s character… the one and only Willie Dixon.  I also gotta mention that Gabriel Union is in the flick, because she’s one of the ten to fifteen or so Hollywood honeys that are in my top five 🙂

When it’s all said and done, Jeffery Wright does it again, as he always does when the camera is rolling.  Wright knocks the roll of Muddy Waters right outta the box.  We know the dude has an Emmy and a Golden Globe, but when is someone gonna at least nominate him for an Oscar?  Homie can act his ass off.

I saw this the weekend it came out & was very impressed! Beyonce’s role was AMAZING!! That police scene with the racial brutality was fucked up, but other than that i enjoyed the movie.
