CHICAGO, IL – An officer responding to reports of shots fired in Englewood near 60th & Hermitage is in critical condition today after being shot in the head and leg per the Suntimes.com:

The incident happened just after midnight in the 6000 block of South Hermitage Avenue as the officer, who wore plain clothes, was responding to a report of shots fired and a person with a gun, police Supt. Jody Weis said during a news briefing.

The officer caught two bullets that came from a car.

A vehicle with “more than one individual” inside drove by and fired several rounds at the officer, striking the officer once in the leg and once in the head, Weis said. The officer’s partner was with him, according to Weis.

Chicagobreakingnews.com reports that the police do indeed have leads:

Other police sources said investigators were “zeroing in” on suspects and hoped to announce arrests soon. Weis would only say: “There are some very good investigative leads right now.” Wentworth Area detectives are investigating the case, he said.
