Heat suspend Rafer Alston indefinitely..

The Miami Heat will have to make their playoff push without their starting point guard, as Rafer Alston was suspended by the team on Friday for the remainder of the regular season.

Alston endured a week-long absence from the team with little explanation, as he exchanged text messages with head coach Erik Spolestra. He later explained that his twin sister was seriously considering suicide, which is the reason why he left the team.

Just a year ago, he helped lead the Orlando Magic to the NBA Finals & is now out of basketball. Carlos Arroyo will start in Alston’s place, while Mario Chalmbers will serve as Arroyo’s backup.

Miami is currently tied for 5th in the Eastern Conference with Charlotte, yet is just 1 game over Toronto for the 8th & final playoff spot.

The Heat will also be without forward Dorrell Wright for today’s game at Philadephia, as he was suspended 2 games by the team after his DUI arrest on Thursday.
