The Los Angeles Lakers might have to embark on their 3rd straight postseason without a fully healthy Andrew Bynum, as the team’s starting center strained his left Achilles tendon on Friday evening during their 104-96 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Star guard Kobe Bryant sounded confident that Bynum wouldn’t miss an extended period of time, but also added that “we need his defense & rebounding.”

With Friday’s win, Los Angeles also clinched a playoff berth for a 29th time in the 31 years that Jerry Buss has owned the team.

The Lakers trail Cleveland by 3.5 games for homecourt advantage should the two teams meet in June for the NBA Finals.
