Breaking News: Bulls hire Tom Thibodeau as head coach

Written by on June 5, 2010

The Chicago Bulls have agreed to terms with Tom Thibodeau to be their 18th head coach in franchise history Saturday, as they once again will rely on a man with no previous NBA head coaching experience.

Thibodeau helped lead the Boston Celtics to a 2008 NBA Finals win over the Los Angeles Lakers & and is currently an assistant to head coach Doc Rivers, who said that “He (Thibodeau) is the best candidate out there.”

Former Defensive Player of the Year winner Kevin Garnett had high praises for his soon-to-be- former assistant coach:

“Thibs brings a passion for defense, I think. When you think of Tom Thibodeau and what’s his strengths, he’s obviously a defense guy. He watches an uncountable amount of film. He’s a worker. He’s a guy that loves his job. He does it with passion. If he is not with us next year, he’s well deserving of it, as well as anybody else on our coaching staff.”

This move could also sway LeBron James to leave Cleveland & sign with Chicago, as Thibodeau’s Celtics were responsible for two of LeBron’s last three postseason exits in 2008 & May of this year.

A press conference to announce Thibodeau’s hiring will be scheduled at the conclusion of the NBA Finals.
