Mattie T’s Game 3 Recap of the 2010 World Series

The Giants got an early rally started in the 1st, as Freddy Sanchez hit a 1-out single off Rangers starter Colby Lewis.

2 batters later, Buster Posey drew a walk to put runners on 1st & 2nd with two outs for Pat Burrell.

Burrell struck out swinging to end the scoring threat.

The Rangers then scored 3 runs in the 2nd, as Nelson Cruz lined a lead-off double to the centerfield wall off Giants starter Jonathan Sanchez.

Ian Kinsler grounded out to Edgar Renteria at shortstop, as it was able to advance Cruz to 3rd on the play.

Jeff Francouer then swung at Sanchez’s first pitch & grounded out to Juan Uribe at third base, as Cruz was unable to score on the play.

That left it up to Bengie Molina, who drew a walk to keep it alive for Mitch Moreland.

Moreland fouled off several balls before launching a 3-run homer (1st of World Series) to give Texas a 3-0 lead.

Texas then tried to add onto their lead in the 3rd, as Michael Young hit a lead-off single to left against Sanchez.

Hamilton was then robbed of a hit by Freddy Sanchez, who threw to Aubrey Huff in time at first base.

Cruz & Vladimir Guerrero then both grounded out to Uribe at 3rd base to end the scoring chance.

The Rangers added onto their lead in the 5th, as Josh Hamilton hit a 2-out solo homer (1st of World Series) off Sanchez to make it a 4-0 game.

San Francisco tried to end the shutout in the top of the 6th, as Huff lined a 2-out double to right off Lewis.

Posey then struck out looking to end the inning.

Texas tried to extend their lead in the bottom of the 6th, as Kinsler hit a 1-out single to shallow left center against San Francisco reliever Guillermo Mota.

Kinsler then stole 2nd base during Francouer’s at-bat, as he drew a walk to put runners on first & second for Molina.

Molina grounded into a double-play to end the scoring threat.

The Giants ended the shutout in the 7th, as Cody Ross’ 2-out solo homer (1st of World Series) off Lewis made it a 4-1 game.

San Francisco crept even closer in the 8th, as Andres Torres’ 1-out solo shot (1st of World Series) made it 4-2.

Colby Lewis (1-0) gets the win for the Rangers after pitching 7 2/3 innings & allowed 2 runs on 5 hits while walking two & striking out six.

Jonathan Sanchez (0-1) takes the loss for the Giants after allowing 4 runs on 6 hits in just 4 2/3 innings of work, while walking three & striking out three.

Darren O’ Day retired Buster Posey on a 8th inning groundout to shortstop to earn his 1st hold of the World Series.

Neftali Feliz pitched a perfect 9th inning & struck out 2 of the 3 batters faced to earn his 1st save of the World Series.

Mitch Moreland was the star of Game 3, as he went 1-for-3 with a 3-run homer that was just enough to prevent Texas from falling behind 3-games to-none.

Game 4 of the 2010 Fall Classic will be played on Sunday evening at 7:20 PM cst, as Madison Bumgarner (1-0, 3.55 ERA in postseason) will square off against Tommy Hunter (0-1, 6.14 ERA in postseason).

Bumgarner will face Texas for the first time in his career on Sunday & has been electric with a 1.78 ERA in 10 career road starts.

Hunter will face San Francisco for the first time in his career Sunday & has a 3.70 ERA in 23 career home starts, compared to a 5.37 ERA on the road.
