On a day where Dwight Howard managed to score just 6 points & the Magic’s new trio combined to shoot just 10-0f-27, Brandon Bass emerged as the unsung hero.

The 6th year forward from LSU scored 21 points & grabbed 9 rebounds to help the Orlando Magic beat the Boston Celtics 86-78 on Saturday afternoon from the Amway Center.

Boston didn’t have much going for them after halftime, as they managed to score just 32 points during the second half & shot just 28-of-81 (34.6%) from the field.

Kevin Garnett (22 points, 5 rebounds) & Paul Pierce (18 points, 8 rebounds & 5 assists) led the way for the Celtics, but their combined backcourt of Nate Robinson & Ray Allen shot just 5-of-28 (17.8%) from the field.

Just 2 nights after beating a 25-3 Spurs team, Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy is starting to see how good his recently re-constructed team can become:

“You see what the possibilities are. You see that you have a chance to be a really good team. We’re not there yet by any means, but you have a chance to be a very good team. And I think that right there, that belief and that confidence that if we will stay with it, we can be very good. That’s a great thing for our team to get that belief that, yeah, this can work. We can do this.”

The loss snapped a 14-game win streak for Boston, as their last loss before today came on November 21st in a 102-101 defeat to Toronto.
