Mattie T’s Tribute to Dave Duerson (1960-2011)

The NFL is in mourning today, as 4-time Pro Bowler & 2-time Super Bowl champion Dave Duerson  was found dead on Thursday evening at the age of 50.

Duerson was born in Muncie, IN and was a 3-sport star at Muncie Northside High School.

He rejected a chance to play for MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers as a pitcher & outfielder in 1979, and wound up playing college football at Notre Dame.

Duerson was selected as an All-American during his junior & senior year, and was named both as Team MVP & Captain in 1982.

The Chicago Bears drafted Duerson in Round 3 (64th overall pick) in the 1983 NFL Draft, as he was a part of the Super Bowl XX winning team.

His only season with the New York Giants in 1990 resulted in another championship, as they went on to win Super Bowl XXV.

Duerson retired from the NFL in 1993 after spending his final 3 seasons with the Phoenix Cardinals.

Overall, Duerson recorded 20 interceptions , 16 sacks, 5 fumble recoveries & 1 defensive touchdown.
