No more Final Four? Memphis stripped of magical 2007-08 run

Written by on August 22, 2009

The memorable NCAA Tournament run that helped Derrick Rose become the 1st overall pick in last June’s NBA Draft & the reigining Rookie of the Year with the Chicago Bulls is now in serious jeopardy.

This comes after a report stating that the Memphis Tigers used an ineligible player during that season’s Final Four run, which apparently is believed to be Rose.

Memphis head coach John Calipari is no stranger to controversy, as his 1996 Final Four trip with UMass was also taken away due to Marcus Camby accepting roughly $28,000 from two sports agents.

The Tigers’ 1985 Final Four run was also stripped due to the team making several NCAA violations Dana Kirk, who was forced out the following year due to multiple felony charges.

Memphis has 15 days to appeal with the NCAA for reinstatement.
