Written by on December 12, 2009

History was made tonight in New York City in the closest race ever, as Alabama running back Mark Ingram became the first player in school history to win the Heisman award.

Ingram becomes the first running back to win the Heisman since USC’s Reggie Bush did it in 2005.

A 24-year old mark was also broken on Saturday evening, as Ingram became the first SEC running back to win the prestigous award since Auburn’s Bo Jackson did it back in 1985.

Alabama will play Texas on January 7th for the National Championship, as  Ingram tries to become the first Heisman winner to win a National title in the same year since USC’s Matt Leinart accomplished the feat in 2004.
