One of baseball’s all-time greats has been diagnosed with cancer in a salivary gland, as Tony Gwynn recently revealed the news to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Gwynn will face 7 to 8 weeks of treatment, which will include radiation & chemotherapy.

The 15-time All-Star seems to be upbeat, while adding that “the doctors have told me that they feel they caught the cancer early and there was not much of it there.”

Once fully recovered, Gwynn will return to coach at San Diego State.

Gwynn played 20 seasons for the San Diego Padres and won eight batting titles, while never hitting below .309 for a single season.
