Braves hire Fredi Gonzalez as manager..

The Atlanta Braves didn’t take long finding Bobby Cox’s successor, as Fredi Gonzalez agreed to terms on Wednesday to become their new manager.

Gonzalez became the Florida Marlins’ all-time winningest manager earlier in the 2010 season before he was fired by the team on June 23rd.

He was most known for his heavily-publiczed move of benching star shortstop Hanley Ramirez on June 23rd for a lack of hustle, which reportedly angered Marlins owner Jeffrey Loria.

Gonzalez defended his decision during his introductory press conference, stating that:

“That’s the way I was brought up. I know the way the game should be played. If you don’t do something, you’re going to lose those 24 other guys. For me, it was just a simple thing to do.”

Gonzalez has a career record of 276 wins & 279 losses in his 3 & a half years of managerial experience with Florida.
